Wanted: Intern
Interns play a vital role at Action for Women, bringing fresh energy, compassion, curiosity, and practical support to our work. If you’re looking to gain hands-on experience in the humanitarian field, aren’t afraid of spreadsheets, fighting our printer, rolling up your sleeves, cleaning toilets or snotty noses, and want to be part of a passionate, impact-driven team, we’d love to hear from you.
Inclusivity & Belonging
We love working with people from diverse backgrounds and warmly welcome applications from cis and trans women, intersex women, and non-binary people who feel comfortable in a space centred on the experiences of women.
Location: Athens
Hours: 30–40 hours per week
Duration: Minimum of 3 months. Begins 01 September 2026
Preference will be given to self-funded candidates who are completing the internship as part of their university studies and can receive academic credit.
We particularly welcome applications from students studying Social Sciences, Psychology, Migration Studies, Gender Studies, Human Rights, International Relations, European Project Management, Public Policy, or a related field.
For this cycle, we are especially interested in applicants who want to learn more about programme development: how grassroots projects are planned, funded, monitored, reported on, and kept running behind the scenes.
Applicants with an interest in EU-funded projects, including Creative Europe, AMIF/FAMI, Erasmus+, CERV, or Interreg, will be prioritised, especially those wishing to gain practical experience in proposal development, narrative and financial reporting, monitoring tools, and budget tracking.
Duties
You will support a variety of tasks across our Day Centre and Shelter, contributing to the well-being, empowerment, and daily functioning of the spaces. Your responsibilities will include:
Support our psychologists in creating, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on our weekly psychosocial support activities for our participants. Think workshops, creativity, connection.
Supporting our Social Worker with accompaniments to services, such as medical or legal appointments, follow-up with residents, and shelter maintenance when needed. Bring patience and good walking shoes.
Providing childcare during classes and appointments. Prepare to be outwitted by toddlers.
Creating dazzling social media content. Canva queens/kings/theys, this is your time.
Supporting basic programme documentation, including attendance sheets, feedback forms, activity tracking, reporting notes, and monitoring tools.
Assisting with small research tasks connected to funding opportunities, EU project calls, programme development, partnerships, and donor reporting.
Helping with basic budget tracking and organising project documents where needed. Spreadsheets will be involved. We apologise in advance.
Tackling anything else our Field Team throws your way, within reason, we promise.
You will be a great fit if you:
Are highly organised, proactive, and can juggle five tasks while remembering where the extra toilet paper is.
Are a proactive human with the soul of a social justice warrior and the calendar of a project manager.
Have excellent tech skills, including Google Suite, Canva, video editing, and maybe some TikTok magic.
Can work across cultures and with people from all walks of life
Know your way around community-based work, or are genuinely ready to learn.
Speak English or Greek at B2 level or above. French or Arabic? Huge bonus!
Have knowledge of the forced migration context in Greece. Yes please.
Are interested in how grassroots programmes are designed, funded, monitored, and reported, not only how they are delivered.
Understand that good intentions are lovely, but structure, humility, follow-through, and respecting people’s dignity matter more.
Ready to jump in?
Great, we’d love to hear from you.
Please send your CV and motivation letter in English to gabrielle@actionforwomen.ch
Yes, we really do read them, and yes, you’ll need both to get a reply.
In your motivation letter, please tell us why you are interested in Action for Women, what you hope to learn during the internship, and whether you have a particular interest in programme development, EU-funded projects, reporting, or monitoring.
Because safety is non-negotiable for us, in keeping The Pomegranate Project a safe and respectful space, our recruitment process includes asking for two references and a recent criminal background check.
We also reserve the right to close applications early if we find the right person, so don’t wait too long.
Deadline:15 August 2026
